Lahore , Pakistan 15th November, 2002 Virtual University a project of the Ministry of Science and Technology Pakistan selects Serebra’s On-line IT and Professional Development courseware for its e-learning portal:

The International Commission on Workforce Development today announced that it has signed an agreement with Virtual University , a new project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the only one of its kind in Pakistan to offer Serebra’s online courseware to VU’s students.

The VU’s e-learning portal, launched recently, creates a center of e-learning courses and resources that expands access of core training materials and education across Pakistan and supports the President’s 21st Century Workforce executive order calling for initiatives that streamline workplace education, retraining and the spread of IT in Pakistan.

Virtual University , one of the top priority projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, intends to exploit the potential of Information Technology as a key contributor to the socio-economic development of Pakistan . Its aim is to contribute to the development of Human Resource in the field and make Pakistan an important player in IT industry. To further that aim and promote e-learning in Pakistan , it would value add to the online Courseware by providing physical facilities for authenticating of students who take these courses and to certify the e-learners after course completion. An MOU in this regards had already been signed between ICWFD together with UNIDO earlier.

“The goal of this partnership is to support the impressive growth in Pakistan ’s E-learning sector, by improving both, the quantity and quality of its IT professionals. The Pakistan market is clearly huge; however, people are disillusioned by the insufficiency of existing IT courses in finding them suitable jobs, or in enabling them to continue higher studies abroad. I commend ICWFD for this initiative and would like to add that Serebra's superior content, coupled with the flexibility of their packaging and the affordability and ease of use of their learning technology, will go a long way in developing the IT skills of our local students and makes them the obvious choice for the Pakistan market, and its growth as a nation." Said Dr. Naveed Malik the Rector of VU.

Virtual University will immediately have access to the Serebra courseware library and Serebra's technology platforms.

We are very proud of our prominent role in helping bridge the digital divide that exists," said Asad Ullah Shah, Director Strategic Alliances ICWFD.ORG. Pakistan has a vast potential and requires flexible, high-quality learning materials capable of meeting individual learner needs and preferences. Serebra is uniquely qualified to satisfy such requirements. Serebra’s ability to draw upon their huge library of content and present it to learners online and through innovative just-in-time delivery formats satisfies the most demanding requirements."
