Tier- 1: e-skills450 (Basic Literacy)

The first level is called e-skills450. This is an entry-level course in end-user computer skills for beginners. It is specifically designed for those with no experience whatsoever of computers. The programme is intended for those fearful of or left behind by technology and is an interactive and simple introduction to computers and the Internet for the complete novice. The aim of e-skills450 is to introduce complete beginners to computer and Internet usage. It is intended to build confidence and remove a student’s inhibitions around computer use. e-skills450 is open to everyone regardless of status, education, age, ability or understanding and is targeted at workers, homemakers, government employees and senior citizens. (Content of the e-skills450 is attached as Appendix-1). The programme will equip trainees with basic computing and Internet skills that will improve their quality of life and enhance the workers' employability. e-skills450 is one of the key initiatives developed to address the training needs of the non-computer literate with the end goal of driving the developing world forward in building an IT-savvy society.

Course content of e-skills450

The e-skills450 course is intended to give students an appreciation of what a computer can do and what tasks can be executed online using the World Wide Web. The e-skills450 course covers the following sections:
